What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Don't stay here if you like to sleep past 7am

The owner was really nice and helpful. The rooms are big and comfortable. The location it's not bad, it's safe because it's in a closed neighborhood and the taxis to center and airport are cheap and fast

Everybody starts to do their things at 7am (employees and other colombian guests) and they don't care about the noise they make (even so it says on the "rules" you shouldn't make any noise until 9am). There is no hot water and the bathtub is really basic. There is a kitchen but you can't use it. It's expensive for what you get, like everything else in Cartagena

The owner was lovely and the room was great value for money!

The owner was lovely and the room was great value for money! Aircon worked well as did the wifi. Would definitely stay here again.

Didn’t feel 100% safe outside of the gated community at night so recommend taxis if coming home later at night (after 8pm).

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

we would spend more coins to stay somewhere more central

+ the neighbourhood is really safe due to the common gate and security guards +- short, 30min walking distance to historic town centre. I'd call that a (-) as you are far off the happening. +- we were recommended by the host to take a taxi back to the accomodation after 8pm. You can view that as a (+) as she mentioned that, but (-) gives you an idea, that that area is not to safe at night. We did take the cab.

- the bathroom has only one tab: Water on. You cannot control the water temperature. - breakfast was: 3 slices of bread, scrambled eggs, 3 sorts of fruit and a beverage. I would have liked jam to the bread which they didn't have or some cornflakes plus milk. - the window to to the bathroom is always open, therefore it's super hot n humid in the bathroom like the general humid weather of Cartagena! - in general we did not feel welcome by that young lady, but just as a source of extra income. After 2 nights we left that place for a hotel in Getsemani, where we had a great and more central stay. That made the time in Cartagena much more pleasant.

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Nice on budget stay

The Casa is located from the historic center 15 min by walk in very nice and quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this place if you are on budget and do not mind to walk a bit.

A/C did not work and we have many mosquitoes in our room upon arrival.

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Do stay!

We initially spent two nights here and then returned for another one. The property is clean and situated in a lovely neighbourhood, where we actually felt like residents. There are many places to shop for food around - including a lovely cake store only two houses away - and the area is very peaceful and within a walking distance from the historical part of Cartagena - although you are encouraged to get a taxi or an Uber by night -. Laura and the staff are amazingly kind and helpful. Would stay there again and I warmly recommend this place!

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Very calm place in wonderful Cartagena

I liked our stay a lot (double room with private bathroom)! It's highly recommended place to stay when you are in Cartagena. Location: it's very safe neighbourhood. It may take 15 minutes when walking to get to the center but it's very convenient to take a taxi (for 8k pesos - affordable and all taxi drivers know where location is - Urbanizacion Espanola) and reach in 4-5 minutes. There is huge shopping mall really within walking distance (6-8 minutes) and castillo san filipe (10 minutes). There are some ammenities within so called Urbanizacion Espanola (pizzeria, groceries..) Owner very nice, friendly, helpfull and caring. General cleanliness, huge bathroom, big room and... many cats :) Thanks Laura for a great stay in Cartagena!

For some it may be a disadvantage that location is not very close to the center. For me there are other benefits instead.

We loved it...

Very comfortable. Laura is a wonderful host and we loved the cats. Superb service and a very safe neighborhood (urbanization).

Only one bathroom, so you can't use the toilet if your neighbors are taking a shower.

Great host, nice breakfast outside on the patio.

Great host, nice breakfast outside on the patio. Not within walking distance of the historic centre but the road was gated and felt secure. Taxi to centre not expensive.

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Great place to stay

This is a lovely little place to stay, it's located in a very safe and nice gated community about 20 minutes walk from the old town, or you can easily get a cab for $1 - $2. The staff (family who live at the house) are lovely, the daughter speaks excellent English. You can get breakfast there for $2.50, eggs on toast with a coffee. The bed was comfy and the room was clean, the tv and air con were nice additions!

It would be better if they offered something else besides eggs for breakfast, eggs make me sick so I couldn't have it. The shower is just a pipe in the roof, no shower head. Which is fine! But a shower head would be nice.

What was the highlight of Casa la Española

Not bad, not great

Staff were helpful when we had questions and the room was large. We also had air con which was a bonus.

The room wasn't overly clean and the towels were a bit stained. The shower wasn't great and the toilet didn't flush very well. The walk into the old town isn't too far but we were told it would be better to get a taxi home in the evening after dark.
